Softball Player Placement Guide & Progression Track
Little League SOFTBALL Age is your players age on Dec. 31st of the PREVIOUS Spring Little League Season
'A' Softball - Ages 6*/7/8
First level league of softball where our goal is the teach players the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing along with learning the basic rules of softball. *Six year-old players may participate having completed one year of T-Ball.
Hitting: Coach-pitch
Field Size: Games are played on a 60-foot base path
Field Type: Games are played on a turf or grass/dirt field
Practices: Field practices are 2 times per week, starting in March, including 6 weeks of batting cage time
Games: There are 10 regular season games which start mid-March. If there are 3 or less NBLL teams, then the Softball game schedule will be a collaboration between our neighboring little leagues, Northshore LL, Woodinville LL & North Lake LL. Games are played mostly on Saturdays at fields within those Little League boundaries. No Scores are reported; 2 hours or 6 inning games.
Ball Type: 10 inch yellow safety compression softball
Team Formation: Teams are formed by the NBLL Softball Coordinator using "buddy requests", school groups and/or neighborhood groups, allowing kids to play with friends and classmates. Team roster sizes will be 10-11 players
Post-Season Games: If there are enough NBLL teams, there will be a 2 game Jamboree (30min games) at Tambark.
'AA' Softball - Ages 8/9/10
Second tier level league of softball where our goal for the player is to continue to build upon the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing along with learning the basic rules of softball.
Hitting: Games are a combination of Kid and Coach pitch.
Field Size: Games are played on a 60-foot base path
Field Type: Games are played on a turf or grass/dirt field
Practices: Field practices are 2 times per week, starting in March including 6 weeks of batting cage time.
Games: There are 12 regular season games which start in mid-March. If there are 3 or less NBLL teams, then the Softball game schedule will be a collaboration between our neighboring little leagues, Northshore LL, Woodinville LL & North Lake LL. Games are played mostly on Saturdays with some weeknight games at fields within those Little League boundaries. Scores are reported; 2 hours or 6 inning games.
Team Formation: Teams are formed by the Softball Coordinator based on Player Assessments, not to be regarded as a tryout but in effort to balance teams only, honoring as many player, parent, & coach requests as possible. After considering all requests, the Division Coordinator will attempt to combine teams based on school . Team Roster sizes will 12-13 players
Post-Season Games: After the close of regular season games, each team will enter a double elimination tournament to close out the season. The seeding of the tournament is a blind draft. Games during the season do not affect tournament placement.
'AAA' Softball - Ages 9*/10/11
Third tier of softball where our goal for the player is to continue to build upon the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing along with learning the basic rules of softball. *9 year old players may be eligible to play at this level after passing a safety evaluation.
Hitting: Kid-pitch.
Field Size: Games are played on a 60-foot base path
Field Type: Games are played on a turf or grass/dirt field
Practices: Field practices are 2 times per week, starting in March, including 6 weeks of batting cage time.
Games: There are 14 regular season games which start in mid-March. If there are 3 or less NBLL teams, then the Softball game schedule will be a collaboration between our neighboring little leagues, Northshore LL, Woodinville LL & North Lake LL. Games are played on all days of the week at fields within those Little League boundaries. Some games will be inter-leagued between neighboring little leagues. Scores are reported; 2 hours or 6 inning games.
Ball Type: 11 inch yellow hard softball
Team Formation: Teams are formed by a serpentine draft by the AAA Managers based on the Tryout results. Team Roster sizes will be 12-13 players
Post Season: If there are enough NBLL teams, after the close of regular season games, each team will enter a double elimination tournament to close out the season. The seeding of the tournament is a blind draft. Games during the season do not affect tournament placement.
Tournament of Champions (TOC): Upon completion of the AAA Division Tournament, an area Tournament of Champions (TOC) will be played among neighboring little leagues. Trophies are awarded for first and second place.
MAJORS Softball - Ages 10*/11/12
Fourth tier level league of softball where our goal for the player is to continue to build upon the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing along with learning the basic rules of softball. *10 year old players may be eligible to play at this level after passing a safety evaluation.
Hitting: Kid-pitch.
Field Size: Games are played on a 60-foot base path.
Field Type: Games are played on a turf or grass/dirt field
Practices: Field practices are 2 times per week, starting in March, including 6 weeks of batting cage time.
